Friends of Barker Field at Byrd Park

Barker Field is a fenced, multi-acre dog park situated in Byrd Park's southeast corner. Dog owners utilize the park in all weathers. There are usually several dogs there, often dozens, and sometimes several dozen milling and chasing around the park.

Friends of Barker Field organized in 2005 to take over stewardship of the park from R-DOG (Richmond Dog Owners Group).  The city provides some maintenance services, like cutting the grass around the fences, or taking care of ditches.  Everything else to facilitate our dogs' special use of the park is provided by volunteer effort or through contributions to the Friends of Barker Field account with the Recreation & Parks Foundation.
