| Friends of Scuffletown
Park

Scuffletown Park was built by the
City of Richmond and dedicated on September 14, 1974 as a pocket
park located in the core area behind the buildings on Park
Avenue, Strawberry Street, Stafford Avenue and Stuart Avenue. In
the past it has been the site for art shows, picnics, concerts,
and gatherings of residents.
 Friends
of Scuffletown Park organized themselves as a grass-roots
organization in the summer of 1999 with its mission to
revitalize the park. Its members comprise to date about thirty
residents on or near the park and supporters of protecting
threatened green space in the inner city. The Friends of
Scuffletown Park are totally volunteer driven.
The organization has raised funds
necessary for the renewal of the space and worked
collaboratively with the Department of Parks, Recreation, and
Community Facilities. The support of neighbors, The Recreation
and Parks Foundation, and local civic and business associations
including the Fan District Association, the Second District
Councilman, and City of Richmond have resulted in a greenspace
which is used and enjoyed by people throughout the Fan District.
Since its formation, the group’s work has resulted in renovation
of Scuffletown Park.
Please
join and support "Friends of Scuffletown Park" in our efforts to
maintain and enjoy this City Park. Your donations will be
used to continue maintenance of the park and community garden by
providing water, painting, weeding, mulching and cleanup of
graffiti. This year "Friends of Scuffletown Park" would like to
raise money to paint the concrete areas left from the original
1976 park facility.
