Passages Summer Camps

Passages one-week day camp sessions include kayaking, rock climbing, rappelling, our 350’ zip-line and our famous 5-mile kayaking trip – a rite of passage. This week is packed with fun and adventure. We provide all drinks, snacks, lunches, gear and a 4:1 camper to counselor ratio. Campers need only bring a water bottle and a good attitude. We’ve been known to work with less!

Passages day camp sessions are held on beautiful Belle Isle in downtown Richmond. Just minutes from the city’s skyscrapers, our campers learn how to kayak on the James River and rock climb on the 20-35 foot cliffs of Belle Isle. A week of Passages helps your child build leadership skills, confidence, and self-esteem in a fun and challenging environment.

Our Rock and River Master Program is a part of every week at Passages and designed to teach campers fundamental through advanced skills in kayaking, rock climbing and rappelling. New campers begin at Level I while returning campers continue to work towards Levels II, III, IV and V. Out goal is for each camper to gain confidence through mastering these skills at his or her own pace while having fun. Campers earn patches by progressing from Level to Level. Out Level V campers are rewarded with a job application.

Our Staff
Our staff of 100 site directors, counselors, guides, jr. counselors and counselors-in-training completes a rigorous 5-day training in addition to certification in CPR and First Aid. Annually, more than 90% of our staff returns from the previous year. They are an incredible group of young men and women with demonstrated passions for kayaking, climbing and kids.

Safety
We are proud of our exceptional safety record since the beginning of Passages in 1993. We consider it an honor and a privilege to work with your child. Your child’s well-being is our number one priority.
